Free, step-by-step — download an MP3, import it from your device, and place it exactly on the cut
CapCut is the free editor most Reels and Shorts creators actually use — and adding a sound effect in it takes less than a minute once you know where the button is. No paid plan, no watermark on the sound, and you can use any free MP3 you download from SFX Vault.
Open SFX Vault on your phone, find the sound you want — a whoosh for transitions, a pop for text appearing, a subscribe bell for the end — and tap download. The MP3 saves straight to your phone, no signup needed.
Drag the audio clip so its middle sits on the frame where the scene changes — a whoosh should peak right on the cut, not after it. Pinch the ends of the audio clip to trim it: a 1-second whoosh for a fast cut, a longer one for a slow reveal. Tap the clip and use Volume to set it below your voice — loud enough to feel, quiet enough not to shout.
One sound is good, two is better. Try these combos, all free on SFX Vault:
To add a second sound, repeat Step 2 — CapCut lets you stack several audio tracks.
Download free whoosh sounds, pop and UI sounds and subscribe bells from SFX Vault — 74 original sounds, no signup, free for your Reels, Shorts and YouTube videos. Add one to your next CapCut edit and hear the difference in one play.
